Technical materials used in food processing facilities are most often evaluated according to the regulations set forth in Title 21 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If a material is labeled as &#8220;FDA compliant&#8221; or &#8220;FDA approved&#8221; for a given application, this means that it meets the requirements defined in FDA regulations for use in contact with food.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is important to note that <strong>the FDA generally does not approve individual finished products<\/strong>, but rather establishes requirements for the composition of materials and their use. The material manufacturer then declares compliance with the relevant regulations. <\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button is-style-outline is-style-outline--1\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-white-color has-vivid-red-background-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/reontech.cz\/en\/contact\/\">Request FDA materials<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<h3 id=\"fda-versus-evropska-legislativa\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The FDA vs. European Legislation<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the European context, we often encounter Regulation (EC) No. 1935\/2004 of the European Parliament and of the Council, which regulates materials and articles intended to come into contact with food. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Materials used in the food industry may therefore meet the following requirements:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>FDA (U.S.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Regulation ( <a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/cs\/TXT\/?uri=CELEX:32004R1935\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">EC) No. 1935\/2004<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/cs\/TXT\/?uri=CELEX%3A32011R0010\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">EU Regulation 10\/2011<\/a> on Plastic Materials<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>other national or industry-specific requirements<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many modern engineering plastics and elastomers meet both FDA and European regulatory requirements, which facilitates their use in international projects.<\/p>\n\n<h2 id=\"ktere-materialy-se-nejcasteji-pouzivaji-v-potravinarskem-prumyslu\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What materials are most commonly used in the food industry?<\/h2>\n\n<h3 id=\"ptfe-virgin\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/reontech.cz\/en\/material\/virgin-ptfe\/\">PTFE virgin<\/a><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">PTFE virgin is a highly versatile fluoroplastic with exceptional properties. Its extremely low coefficient of friction, excellent chemical resistance and stability over a wide temperature range make it one of the most widely used engineering plastics. It is electrically non-conductive, resistant to ageing and moisture.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is resistant to almost all chemicals, has excellent sliding properties and high resistance to ageing. The material is FDA approved and can be used in the food industry. Due to its lower elasticity, pure Teflon is not suitable for higher mechanical loads. The material also has a lower resistance to abrasion. For more demanding applications, it is therefore preferable to use one of the PTFE-filled variants.    <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Material temperature resistance: -200 \u00b0C to +260 \u00b0C<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Examples of products and uses:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Seals and insulating elements, slip rings and washers, parts for the chemical industry, electrical insulation components, food and pharmaceutical applications, tank and pipe linings, plain bearings and valves.<\/p>\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n<h3 id=\"pryz-mvq-silikon-pryz-pro-potravinarsky-prumysl\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/reontech.cz\/en\/cat\/rubber-silicone\/\">MVQ Rubber<\/a> \u2013 Silicone, Rubber for the Food Industry<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Silicone rubber is mainly used in the food industry due to the fact that it does not affect the taste or smell of the medium with which it is in contact.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Compared to other materials, it offers high flexibility at low temperatures (while maintaining properties), very good temperature resistance. Rubber has excellent resistance to UV radiation, ozone, atmospheric influences and aging.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The rubbers are FDA-approved (<strong>FDA 21 177.2600, BfR XV, KTW BGBI 28-12<\/strong>) and can be used in the food industry.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Its non-absorbent and water-impermeable properties, its lack of impact on the taste and odor of the medium with which it comes into contact (it is bacteriologically non-degradable), and the fact that it does not stain are the reasons why it is widely used, particularly in the food industry.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rubber is not resistant to prolonged exposure to superheated steam.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Examples of Products and Applications<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sealing elements in direct contact with products of the food industry. Heat-stressed products. <\/p>\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n<h3 id=\"pom-c-polyacetal\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/reontech.cz\/en\/material\/pom-c\/\">POM-C<\/a> (polyacetal)<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">POM-C (known as polyacetal) is an engineering plastic with excellent mechanical properties, low friction, and high dimensional stability.<br\/>Thanks to its strength and resistance to wear and chemicals, it is widely used in industrial applications, particularly in the manufacture of precision structural components and sliding parts.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The material&#8217;s temperature resistance ranges from -50\u00b0 to +100\u00b0C<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Examples of products and uses:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bearings, piston rings, seals, sliding components, guide components, ventilation housings, covers, coil housings, pump components, gear components, gears.<\/p>\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n<h3 id=\"pe-1000-pe-uhmw\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/reontech.cz\/en\/material\/pe-1000\/\">PE 1000 \/ PE-UHMW<\/a><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">PE1000 polyethylene is primarily used in applications where the material must meet high requirements for low coefficient of friction and high abrasion resistance. You must also take the following into account: <\/p>\n\n<h3 id=\"druh-media\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Media Type<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The material may come into contact with a wide variety of substances. In the food industry, for example, the material comes into contact with: <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>with water<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>dairy products<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>drinks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>fats and oils<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>sugar solutions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>cleaning chemicals<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each medium can have a different effect on a material, and it is therefore necessary to assess the suitability of the material, particularly with regard to long-term exposure to the substance in question.<\/p>\n\n<h3 id=\"teplotu-provozu\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Operating temperature<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some materials are suitable only for normal operating temperatures, while others can withstand steam sterilization or high-temperature washing. It is therefore always necessary to assess whether a material can withstand temperature demands over the long term and whether its properties change at different temperatures (for example, some materials become brittle and lose flexibility at low temperatures). <\/p>\n\n<h3 id=\"mechanicke-zatizeni\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mechanical load<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is necessary to take into account pressure, friction, speed of movement, and the required service life of the part. Mechanical and pressure stresses significantly influence the choice of material, as materials often differ significantly from one another in these physical properties. <\/p>\n\n<h3 id=\"pozadovanou-dokumentaci\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Required Documentation<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When selecting a material, it is, of course, also necessary to verify that the material complies with legal requirements and meets all certification and testing standards.
