Butyl, IIR

IIR rubber (Isobutylene isoprene rubber), also known as Butyl, is a special type of rubber material that excels primarily in its impermeability to gases, water, air, and steam.

Its other advantages include good chemical resistance (long-term resistance to strong bases, alkalis, mineral acids, ozone, ketones, light alcohols), high strength, and excellent UV resistance (suitable for outdoor use).

The rubber is unsuitable for use with oils and has limited resistance to concentrated acids, solvents, and hydrocarbons.

Due to its properties, this material is used, for example, in the production of tires or gas masks. However, it also finds application wherever impermeability to gases and other advantages of this material are emphasized.

It is a homogeneous rubber without textile or other inserts. It is composed of copolymerized isobutylene (98%) with an admixture of isoprene (2%).

The material’s temperature resistance is -45°C to +120°C.
